How to play 2048

2048 is an addictive sliding-tile puzzle. Swipe (or use the arrow keys) to move all the tiles in one direction. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with double the value.

Rules

• Every move slides all tiles as far as they can go and merges matching pairs.
• A new tile (a 2 or a 4) appears after each move.
• Reach the 2048 tile to win — then keep going for a higher score.
• The game ends when the board is full and no moves remain.

Strategy

Keep your highest tile in one corner and build your other tiles around it. Try to move in only two or three directions so your big tile stays put, and merge steadily rather than scattering tiles across the board.
